Vice Consul Miguel Carlo Hornilla (fourth from right), together with ASEAN Representatives and organizers (Buenos Aires PE)

Buenos Aires — Together with other ASEAN Embassies in Buenos Aires, the Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires participates in a trade and investments seminar jointly organized by the Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires and local think tank Equilibrium Global on May 23,  2019.

The event includes the participation of 40 small and medium enterprises, mostly in the export sector, and officials from the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MFA).

Embassy Third Secretary and Vice Consul Miguel Carlo Hornilla gave a presentation on the successes of the Philippine economy and its comparative advantages vis-à-vis other ASEAN countries, giving particular emphasis on PH’s highly-skilled, English-speaking workforce, and how this makes Philippine the ideal point of entry to reach the wider ASEAN market.

Vice Consul Hornilla also spoke about the various incentives offered to foreign investors. He recounted the success story of Farmesa SA, the first Argentine investor to establish presence in the Philippines, which started from having only a commercial office to building a manufacturing plant, with plans to export carrageenan from the Philippine worldwide.

Following the presentations of the ASEAN representatives, Dr. Erika Imhof from the MFA’s Directorate for Asia and Oceania made a brief presentation on the Argentine Committee for Asia-Pacific (CONAPAC).

Founded in 1992, CONAPAC was re-established in 2016 and is described as a “space for reflection” to help guide Argentina’s relations with Asia Pacific countries.
